The STLD, originally founded on 30 October 1974 as the Society of Television Lighting Directors, has been a cornerstone of the broadcast industry for over five decades. Created to foster discussion around creative techniques and the design and use of lighting equipment in television production, the STLD has evolved alongside the industry. In 2009, during its 35th AGM, it adopted its current name, reflecting a broader and more inclusive focus on both lighting and design in broadcast.
